SCARBOROUGH, ON ― MPP Raymond Cho today announced that the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCCGT) has been awarded a $150,000 grant funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Capital Grant stream for the year 2023-24. This provincial funding will enable the Centre to make major repairs to their facility in Scarborough and ensure a safe and comfortable community space for them to continue serving the community needs.

“Our government believes organizations, such as the CCCGT, enrich the lives of people in Scarborough and play an important role in building a strong and prosperous economy in Ontario. That’s why I am proud that they are receiving this support,” said the Hon. Raymond Cho, MPP for Scarborough North and Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “The CCCGT has been a pillar of our community. This funding will enable them to better serve the people of Scarborough and continue to make a positive difference.”

The announcement was made at the Centre’s Spin ‘n Smash seniors table tennis event today being held by the Centre’s Multi-Purpose Hall. With the $150,000 Capital Grant over 12 months, the Centre is now able to complete their much-needed key repair projects throughout their 25 year-old service centre in Scarborough, such as replacing the roof and carpeting.

“This grant has enabled us in repairing the roof of our building, while also allowing us to update and replace some of the carpets inside the Centre.” said Alan Lam, Chairman of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. “These important improvement measures are crucial to our centre as we want to ensure that our facilities can continue to provide a safe, comfortable space for people to participate in various community activities and programs.”

This Capital Grant stream offered through OTF continues to be vital support to many non-profit groups across the province for their infrastructure improvements. This provincial funding helps ensure communities can have safe and ready access to critical programming, activities and spaces that Ontarians need to thrive. Whether it is purchasing equipment, building a new space, or completing renovations, retrofits or repairs, these grants support projects that are having a positive impact in the community.

“Non-profit organizations across Ontario deliver programming that makes a difference – helping people train for new careers, learn new things, or simply connect with those around them,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “That’s why the capital grant support that my ministry is providing is so important. Our government wants to ensure that these spaces remain the heart of communities across our province.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Its mandate is to build healthy and vibrant communities throughout Ontario by investing in community-based initiatives and strengthening the impact of the province’s non-profit sector. Capital grants improve access to programs and technology in community spaces, making it easier for Ontarians to participate in community programs.

Since 2018, close to $682 million has been invested in more than 5,900 projects, creating more than 7,300 full time jobs and generating nearly $981 million in economic benefits for communities across Ontario.
