Statement from Raymond Cho, MPP Scarborough North on Today’s Assault at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto

I am profoundly saddened and troubled about the incident that took place at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto earlier today.  During this mornings prayers the local Iman was assaulted.

There is no place in our open, inclusive, multicultural and multifaith society for this kind of attack. 

The Islamic Foundation of Toronto is a cornerstone of our community, one that I have and continue to support in my over 30 years of being an elected representative and the over 50 years that I have called Scarborough home.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, however, this incident provides us with a time to reflect on the need to ensure that the Islamic Foundation of Toronto, our Muslim community and our entire multi-faith community are safe and have peaceful places of worship.

Our entire community stands with our friends and neighbours of the Muslim community in Scarborough and all across Ontario in support of peace and the right to pray and worship in peace.  We are here to support you.
